Anita Sarkeesian is being forced to pull out of the fight.

She's cancelling the Tropes series because the harrassment is causing her mental and physical to fail. She is literally being harasssed to death. She's going to be winding down the length of the videos and stop making them all together.

I can't say I blame her, she needs to keep herself safe, but this is still terrible news. Who're we going to get to keep up the fight after her? Felicia fucking Day? Lianna Kerzna? I literally can't think of a third option even with the bar set as low as Day and Kerzna. That's sad.

Given some of the bullshit I've seen Anita say on her own Twitter, I have zero fucks to give. At least Felicia Day games and does so openly. Like, I'm all for feminism in gaming. We need it.

But not Anita's third wave lacking intersectiontality bullshit that's clearly meant to give her attention and dollars.

Well according to the article linked above, she's only changing her format to shorter, more frequent videos? Which I think is more fitting for the youtube format anyway. Not that in depth discussion of the role of women in media is not important and possible, but I think her format and content work better in short installments.

Apart from that, I can't really say, I'll miss her. Of course her being bullied like she was is wrong and inexcusable and in itself shows how necessary a discussion of women in gaming culture is, but I don't think her content was all that good. Her views on feminism always rely to strongly on gender essentialism and her brand of pacificsm for my tastes. If she really will stop contributing, someone else will appear, and chances are they will be better.
