A well written character should be relatable regardless of gender imo.
While I do tend to sometimes relate more to female characters then male, I can still relate or at least feal empathy towards male characters as long as they're aren't boring or written lazily.

The "boys can't relate to female protagonists!" agruement is still stupid for a buttload of reasons tbh.
