You should see Psycho! It's one of the classics of 60s horror/thrillers.

AYRT - Is it gory? I'm not so much into gory thrillers.

Not super graphic. More psychological terror than actual gore.

... it's from the 1960s. The most you'll see is a close-up of a shower drain as a lot of blood pours down it -- and the movie's black and white. (Fun fact -- they used chocolate syrup because the usual stage blood didn't have the right shade on B&W film.)

Gore was a very risky thing to do in a still censorious 1960s and didn't really take off until 1968's Night Of The Living Dead (which was also black and white and also used chocolate syrup! And liver. Which explains why the zombies looked so disgusted during the infamous "barbecue" scene.)

I've heard that about old B&W movies, and that it's extra work to "colorize" them, because chocolate sauce was the correct consistency but obviously not the right color. I am, however, in awe of whoever looked at a bottle of chocolate sauce at the grocery and thought, "Hey, you know what, this would make great fake blood on set!" Seriously, I bow my non-existent hat to whomever made that logical leap.

And man some of the things I've heard about the making of Night of the Living Dead are more disturbing than the movie itself, I swear.

The story goes that they weren't even allowed to show the woman and the knife in the same shot, so, no.
