I feel like a traitor to geekdom, but I am officially kind of over superhero movies. I am looking forward to Civil War, mostly because Cap is my fave, but none of the others attract me.

Well, I think I have to take your geek card. We can't have you not liking a geek thing. You must like superhero movies, Star Trek, and Star Wars. Wait...I don't like Star Wars. That means...

*gets dragged away by geek police* NNNOOoooOOOooooooooo

The geek police will release you on your own recognizance, provided you confess that you just used a Darth Vader TM "NNNOOoooOOOooooooooo!!!" This is a mitigating factor in your release from fandom-jail.

you forgot anime and video games

I can see this. I'm actually very excited for Civil War and Suicide Squad based on the trailers but I'm also fatigued because I feel like they've hyped some of the films forever. Batman v Superman was announced forever ago. The first trailer was months ago. I'm already over it.

I think a lot of the superhero films are actually fairly diverse in tone, etc. so I haven't gotten tired in that sense. But I'm interested in Dr. Strange because I think it might be very different from what we've gotten so far.

See, all I'm seeing is sameyness. The same basic plots are recycled, the same basic conflicts. And I am so sick of every movie ending with some large flying thing that will kill lots of people unless it's stopped within X amount of time. Gah. Enough with it.

I kind of wish I could care, because a lot of my geeky groups are still crazy about these movies, and I can't really participate in the discussions.

Hmm, I guess I see it as: CA:WS was a spy thriller, CA was a war movie, Ant-man was a heist film, Guardians was a space opera, Dr. Strange should be a horror film, etc.

However, I can see Iron Man, Avengers and Thor kind of being samey. Certainly I think Civil War as Avengers 3 could be different since it's going to be an interpersonal conflict rather than something blowing things up and taking over the world, and that's appealing.

I'm sort of on the fence in that I don't want any major shakeups with regards to characters dying or having movies ending without the heroes winning (exception for part 1 of 2-parters). But I agree that if they announced Iron Man 4, I wouldn't have any interest. I think Marvel needs some better villains to be honest. The redeeming thing for Thor is Loki. He's interesting and unpredictable at least. That could salvage quite a bit of samey plot.
