(Anonymous) 2016-01-29 04:56 am (UTC)(link)Me, I figure Thor is basically a good guy but in whatever continuity you pick he's done some really bad, reckless, nasty stuff while being totally unaware of it (as happens IRL sometimes) and was guilty of being kind of thoughtless. Not stupid, but had a very narrow way of seeing things that gets better as he develops. Odin I think is hyper traditional and means well but does have some toxic stuff internalized and might not always realize when he does something that could wreck someone. Plus Odin has to balance the throne/needs of Asgard with being a dad, which I'd imagine can be tough at times. The flipside of this confession is that hero fans often really struggle with thinking of heroes as fallible and doing stuff that's legit bad without becoming villains, same as how villains can have sympathetic motives and be victims in some situations without their villainous acts being less villainous. Characters should be more than labels.
