Oh no, it's possible to ship something and hate one of the characters. Fans get so obsessed with their fave character (Snape) that they'll direct any amount of vitriol they can muster at the object of their faves' obsessions. The girl is tolerated so long as she's banging the fave, but the minute she thinks for herself she's a bitch and a whore and deserves every horrible thing coming her way.

See Delena shippers from TVD. They all cream themselves over Damon and hate Elena every second she's not creaming herself over him.

This is especially true when the object of the fave's obsessions does not return the infatuation. Happens in nearly every het ship I've seen, but Lily gets it particularly bad in Snape/Lily because of all the other plot-related reasons they aren't a thing.
