Idk, has Sherlock fandom sent death threats to Freeman and Cumberbatch's wives for cruelly preventing their husbands from "admitting" that they're gay and declaring their true love for each other? Like the Supernatural fandom did to the wives of that show's actors? I mean, Sherlock fandom is full of nutcases and I avoid it like the plague despite being very fond of the show itself, but I think SPN may have the leg up on Sherlock when it comes to horrifying fans.

As someone in the Sherlock fandom: yeah, there were a few instances of death threats lobbed at Amanda Abbington (Martin Freeman's partner), but less because she was preventing Martin and Ben from being together as that she was cast as Mary Morstan (John Watson's wife) and she was preventing John and Sherlock from being together. It got quite nasty, actually.

I'm not sure about Cumberbatch's wife, though. I've definitely seen some grumbling about her, but it seems to be mostly contained on a few tumblr blogs who just sort of sit around and tinhat-bitch with each other.

That said, I do still feel like the SPN fandom takes the cake, just for how constant the tinhatting abuse is. The death threats thrown at Amanda were awful, but at least it only really happened a couple of times, as far as I know.

This.

I am on the SPN fandom, and the sheer HATE that the wives get every day is astoudish. Second only to the hate that Misha Collins gets for breathing in the general vicinity of Jared and Jensen.

I'm sure that if Fandom Wank still existed, SPN would be front page every day.

I don't know much about the SPN fandom admittedly, but the shit I've read about the Sherlock fandom on their fandom drama wiki page just really really rubbed me the wrong way.
A lot of it had to do with intense bullying of sexual abuse survivors and how it eventually led to them accusing said sexual abuse survivors of being pedophiles (with litterally no evidence) and trying to get them fired from their jobs. And the worst part, was that most of said bullying was conducted by BNF who happened to be a lawyer.
I can't descibe all of it, but if you have a few hours to kill, you should look it up on fandomwank.

Good lord.

This sort of crap is why I don't wade too deeply into fandoms. I'll read and write fic, I'll chat with a random handful of fans I encounter online that seem cool, I'll gladly participate in discussions about the shows in question. But that's really about all the farther I need to go.

I don't know if there's corners of my fandoms that have this sort of craziness that you and others in the SPN and "Sherlock" and SU fandoms refer to, but if there are, I don't want to know about or encounter them. At all. That's waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much drama for me.

One of the Walking Dead actors got legit bitten by a fan.
