Media for Kids

I just watched the movies for Penguins of Madagascar and Shaun the Sheep. They were both really cute. How about you guys? What was the last thing you watched that is nominally for kids? Did you like it? What's your favorite thing for kids?

It's been a while, so I think Big Hero 6. And it was great but it made me cry.

I've been meaning to watch that. Everyone I've talked to who's watched it has liked it.

"The Good Dinosaur." Which is a story about a boy and his dog where the boy is the dinosaur and the dog is the human kid.

I actually leaned over and whispered "You realize that in all these dog-and-boy movies, the dog dies, right?" to my husband while we were watching it. His reaction? "YOU ARE TERRIBLE."

Thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It was cute.

I LOL'd in real life. I'm glad you liked the movie. I wanted to watch it but I've been hearing mixed reviews.

I woke up at ... 2 AM to watch the new Ever After High movie on Netflix and got back from Kung Fu Panda 3 a few hours ago. Both slightly disappointing, KFP 3 more so.

That's disappointing to hear about KFP 3. I was looking forward to that one.

My best friend loved the first Kung Fu Panda movie but he hasn't seen the third one yet, maybe I should warn him.

Disney.

No regrets.

Yep. I have yet to see some of the more recent Disney films, but the movies I grew up watching? I'll happily sit and watch any of them when I have the opportunity to do so.

I also still enjoy watching a lot of the old Nicktoons that were popular in the '90s. "Rugrats", "Doug", "Hey Arnold"...that's always good stuff.

Me too.

What're your favorites?

The Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
The Princess and the Frog
Lilo and Stitch
Fantasia
Mulan
Emperor's New Groove

I have a complicated relationship with the Pocahontas movie. The leads bore me to tears, but the animation is beautiful and the secondary characters are interesting.

Steven Universe, actually. Or does that not count?

Re: Media for Kids

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen it but I would think it counts.

Clone Wars?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Does it count if once per episode I whisper into the night "This is for KIDS???"

The Good Dinosaur. I'm gonna watch this HTTYD race movie now though, cause it has a chicken and i like chickens

If you haven't already watched them, I recommend starting with Dragons: Riders of Berk and Dragons: Defenders of Berk before watching Race to the Edge.

Thanks anon, I've seen them! They're enjoyable enough.

I have however discovered Race to the Edge is actually the name of season 3 of the TV show so I'm gonna pass. Movies i'm cool with, not so interested in a tv show.

I love animated movies, for kids or for older audiences (maybe because most of the time I can't focus well enough on real actors' faces to enjoy live movies.)
I don't know if Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet counts? It was a bit weird, but great. If it doesn't, then The Good Dinosaur; overall cute but a bit disappointing.

I loved Shaun the Sheep to bits and thought The Penguins of Madagascar movie was hilarious, but wasn't much more than a glorified cartoon episode shoe-horned in the Madagascar universe. (I loved the cartoon series, by the way, and was so disappointed when the movie didn't renew its fandom.)

My favourite thing for kids now is the How To Train Your Dragon franchise, both movies and all cartoon series (plus, the books series). I can't wait for the next cartoon series and the third movie!!

I watched Hercules the movie. The music was great, though the inaccuracies annoyed me.
