I feel you on that. I have male and female Inquisitors for each race too, but I've only put a significant amount of time into a couple of those. I would actually like to romance just about everyone in the cast, but that's SO MUCH TIME. (I think my first playthrough ended up being somewhere around 180 hours long?)
Like...how is there enough time to romance everyone, unless you skip over the majority of the game? lol.
So I ended up watching most the romance stuff online; god knows when I'll get to the rest. (Probably never.)
as long as there's more than one option per gender
Even though I liked those romances, I understand where you're coming from; it's always better to have a choice. (And sometimes you get lucky and love everyone!)
But there were several LI's in ME2 (for each Shep)! You could keep with your Kaidan or Liara romance, or go with Garrus or Tali, and then there was Thane and Jack and Miranda and Jacob... (Again, that's a lot of options. I can't keep up with them all despite the fact that I adore almost every one of those characters, lol.)
is really just that there are too many romances/characters I'm not interested in at all.
However, having all these options doesn't do you much good if you don't want to take them. :/ Sorry, anon. Hopefully you like the next cast more.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 02:26 am (UTC)(link)But there were several LI's in ME2 (for each Shep)!
Oh, sorry, by that I meant I don't like gender restrictions when almost everyone is straight. It was only Liara when it came to f/f choices (since Samara or Kelly weren't considered proper romances), and there weren't any m/m choices at all until the third game. I liked the choices a lot otherwise, though (and ME2 has one of my favourite game casts, so I'd never complain about that!)
Another thing I was sad about was that I wanted to romance Vivienne so badly, haha. It doesn't seem like she's very popular in the fandom, but I'm pretty sure she ended up being my favourite character in the game.

Oh, sure. A lot of the side-quests are rather boring and don't affect much anyway, though there would still be at least some farming of power before you could move on with the story. I guess my issue is that I don't like skipping stuff, even if it isn't particularly fun stuff. I'm weird about that. (If I had played the game three or four times though, lol, just might.)
I don't like gender restrictions when almost everyone is straight
Ah, I should've understood that! Gotcha. TBH I feel the same in that I think everyone should have at least two choices, and it's so nice having the ability to play a same sex romance that I typically take it when given the chance. Mass Effect has been oddly lacking in same sex romance for a BioWare series, but I'm hoping Andromeda will do better. (I imagine they will, since BioWare knows their fanbase well by this point, and knows that's a giant incentive for people to play.)
was that I wanted to romance Vivienne so badly
You are not the only person I've seen lament the inability to romance Viv! (However, I'm glad that she had a good reason for not being romanceable.) She's a gorgeous character and a strong lady that I respect, but am not overtly fond of in the same way as other characters. It all comes down to personal preference; I think a lot of BioWare fans just enjoy more jokey, flirty characters. (Though...Viv has some damn funny banter, in particular with Bull and Dorian.)

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 03:29 am (UTC)(link)I hope so too! It felt extra weird when so many of the romances are aliens, since I mean, once you're crossing the species barrier, gender almost seems like it'd be kinda irrelevant?
Well, I can definitely understand why Vivienne would rub someone the wrong way! I mean, she's a bit of a condescending snob (which I find super endearing and hilarious, but I get why other people wouldn't). Solas gets on my nerves for similar reasons (along with Trespasser reasons, of course), so I'm a bit of a hypocrite that way.
(Though...Viv has some damn funny banter, in particular with Bull and Dorian.)
Vivienne & Iron Bull have some of my favourite banter, I love their relationship. I think something this series does really well in general is fully flesh out the relationships between the companions? I've played way too many games where it seems like the party members only exist to talk to the main character and never seem to interact with each other.
