I feel similarly. There's no reason why fic writers can't "graduate" to published works, nor is there any reason for them to either want to keep their toes in fandom or cut ties altogether. It's their decision.

inb4 "LOL PUBLISHED AND FANFIC WORKS ARE ~DIFFERENT~" have you read any books published in the last five years, there's so much that reads like a fanfic. Legit published stuff. Mercedes Lackey's 2011 book read like a goddamn fanfic. Tamora Pierce is going overboard with SJ issues. Most of existing YA. Stephen King repeating himself. Goddamn James Patterson and his ghostwriters.
