Don't let one flame thread put you off, OP, especially since it's a self-selected bunch of people who are prone toward flaming argumentation. :) Out in greater fandom people are hella supportive of one of their own. I've seen it in action. Go on out there and follow your muse.

This happens a lot with ugly thread. The aggressive jerks will come in and cirejerk. The moderate and nice people won't even bother, knowing they'll get jumped on. Then for people who read the thread, its easy to feel like the circlejerk is the prevailing opinion
