If you could somehow separate "suave female thief" from "author's wish fulfillment," "femme fatale," "ostensibly competent but inevitably useless character" with the industrial-strength titanium crowbar it would require, I could see that being a really cool character, too.

That's exactly my problem with the character type. She SHOULD be able to get shit done but she never does and always requires saving.

In a weird way, I think Vakna from the porn webcomic Olgaf fits this bill because it's a porn/comedy webcomic - everything is so sexualized it's sort of taken for granted and she ends up being so absurdly sexy that she comes out the other side as a really competent thief.

(or maybe that makes no sense, I just really like that comic)
