Technically it is a remake and yes Starbuck was a dude in the original, but a lot of stuff in the newer one is very different and the original was WAY shorter than the new one. So a lot of the character development and the things that happen were created for the newer version, not just copied.

It's borrowing the basic archetypes, yeah. Starbuck wasn't as complicated in the original and Boomer was pretty much a rewrite in name only.
