Yeah, I remember that secret and those comments. I don't know if anyone else has linked back to it yet, but if not, here:
http://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/1351238.html?thread=885817158#cmt885817158

...And wow, you're really determined to continue to misinterpret the reaction it got. The nastiness that sprang up was not pearl-clutching over the mere fact of someone choosing to go on and write original fic. (Though I've no doubt some entitled fans would feel that way. And honestly if that's so shocking to you, I can only think you haven't been in fandom for very long.)

The nastiness was over the "fuck you" attitude that most people (correctly or otherwise) felt was rolling off the original secret.

It was said before (in fact, in reply to a comment I assume was yours, since it's nearly identical to this secret), but these things are not the same, and will get differing reactions:
- Leaving off writing fanfic because you've decided to work on original fic;
- Filing the serial numbers off fanfic to get it published;
- Deleting your old fanfic without warning your fans for reasons unexplained;
- Deleting your old fanfic deliberately to try and cover your tracks re: filing off serial numbers.

...I don't know why you needed to make this secret, OP. It's just rehashing the pointless wank of the last one, and it reads like trolling.

Thanks for linking the original secret. I do find it intriguing how many people only remember one tangent of the responses and seem to conflate that being into 'yes everyone was angry and entitled'.

Who said that everyone was angry and entitled? Where did they say this? Please cite, because I don't see that claim anywhere, merely people noting that some of the responses were angry and entitled, which was true.

At least part of the nastiness was that people took it as a personal insult when authors deleted their fics, which is why they reacted angrily. They just could NOT see that it wasn't giving fandom the middle finger.

Maybe, but this secret doesn't even mention the "deleting all fanfic from archives" aspect of the previous one. Which is either really disingenuous of OP, or else that part of the debate passed them by completely.

nayrt - Either that or it didn't apply to the OP's situation.
