+1. Much as I love it, there are only so many times I can watch "Do You Want to Lane Together?"

Weirdly I know about a dozen Dota players IRL, and yeah, they're not really fandom types. These guys are busy as fuck jockbrokers or tech startup dudes who supplement nights of hardcore partying with the occasional nights of hardcore gaming. If this small sample is in any way indicative of the community, it would explain the lack of fan activity.

I don't play either, but what I hear from Cool Ghost's Matt Lee Dota players are like a silent, invisible crowd.

The game is very popular, just not with people who talk about their hobbies online. I guess that explains why there is little fandom.

don't be jealous op, the golden age of the tf2 fandom is over imo. it's pretty sad now.

It might be past its heydey, but it's still generating fanart and fic at a respectable pace.

I have no doubt that there is still content being created. maybe my point was just that a lot of the more well known fanartists and writers from the more active days have moved on to other interests and fandoms :''/

And as a L4D/L4D2 fan, I weep for the dwindling fandom. My only salvation is the possibility of a L4D3. (PLEASE LET THOSE RUMORS BE TRUE.)

Actually, Matchmaking is in open beta right now. It was just released on reddit by Valve staff. Contracts brought record amounts of people. In fact, the gamer side is still pretty strong. The reddit has 100s of people around at any given moment. Considering that it's a 7+ year old game, that's pretty damn good, considering they make the top 3 most played on Steam.

The fanwork side of fandom, though...it fell hard. I'm not sure what really did it. The longer wait for comic updates? The huge wanks in 2014-2015? Simply moving to other interests? It doesn't help when asshole fans keep driving out our big content creators. Cyan, Lux, several of the big Heavy/Medic fans, and now Measured has been pushed to her limit. At this rate the best artists have moved on, and only a handful of ficcers and other media creators. This promotes an even worse cycle as people don't even check the tags and just support a few fans, essentially pushing out new fans before they even had a chance to post anything.

It's depressing, and I don't know how to fix it, but it's rooted in more than just the series being old and more a toxic and cliquish mindset which has permeated the fandom since the TF2chan days.

What exactly happened? Didn't see any of this :/

AYRT. Ever heard of Zamii720? We had Zamii level bullshit.

Warning for transphobia on the page, but it's the only place I've found the SJW years of TF2 to be shown.
