Steven Universe / the Zamii fiasco

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Obligatory Disclaimer: What happened to Zamii was horrible, obviously, and the people who harassed her should step on all the legos.

Having said that, it irks me that people are acting like this incident was solely perpetrated by the SU fandom, and that the SU fandom is somehow unique in having a large contigent of batshit SJW tumblr assholes who think it's okay to ruin people's lives in the name of ~justice~.

Zamii was being stalked and harassed over her MLP and Homestuck fanworks long before SU was a thing, and there are plenty of other fandoms that have these exact same issues in abundance (WtNV is one that comes to mind).

Everyone wants a scapegoat.

(and for your own sake, use better insults than "step on all legos" it doesn't even hurt that bad.)

I like that phrase, though. :(

SU is the newest SJ scapegoat

This, after the incident I looked into, and it had been happening to her for a long time before SU was even a thing. Seemed like it was especially big in Homestuck.

Homestuck fandom is pretty dead and MLP is seen as not SJW, so nobody cares if they were part of the bullying...

although most hs fans I know are SU fans now

Didn't homestuck fans also have a bad reputation? Like I know SU got shit for the Zamii thing but they're not exactly the first fandom to get a bad rep.

Well, if SU fandom didn't already have a vocal segment that was the far extreme end of social justice, then maybe the fandom wouldn't have earned the (rightfully so, IMHO) reputation it did after this incident.

I think it's because, like people said up there, HS is pretty much dead in the water (and it did start having an SJW reputation from what I saw) and most of the fandom moved to SU and other fandoms.

Plus there's the fact that shit hit the fan in the SU fandom, and it being popular right now helps fan the flames.
