"Oh there's no rape in [Eastern European country]."
"How do you know that?"
"It's never in the news!"

and

"Well, poor people don't have to buy Halloween costumes, they can just make them like I do!"

For context, the first was my 50-something mother who lived in said country, and the second was my 40-something sister.
