I'm trying to branch out and write more porn but my fic taste is pretty vanilla. I feel like I'm going to recycle the same few things over and over again, so I'm looking for some variety without going too extreme.

What kinks or tropes do you guys like in fic? (Also, if you want, what do you like to see about that kink/trope? Or do you have advice about how to write it so it's hot?)

-Extremely possessive behavior.
-One of the characters being so hot, that the other just cannot resist them. Sometimes this sort of stuff is often linked to dub/non-con, but it does not have to be.
-Bondage. My personal favorite is one character being larger or stronger than the other character and bodily holding them down. A little bit of a struggle (consensual obviously) can be very sexy, as long as no one gets hurt!
-Toys! Lots of toys!!
-Orgasm denial. Very sexy.

Oh jeez, that's hard to say. It depends on what you are comfortable writing. Plugs can be fun, cock rings are very related to orgasm denial if you're writing that, gags and other bondage equipment are good if you're writing that sort of scene. Vibrators are also related to orgasm denial (more with the ladies, but works for men too definitely).

Multitudinous things! But you should always write what you like, OP. Otherwise no matter what you do it's not going to seem all that hot to a reader.

I suggest you branch out in your fic reading to look at some kinks you wouldn't have thought of before (Ao3 tagging is good for this), and go from there.

That's kind of what I'm hoping with this thread - that people will give me ideas of what to look for. I actually do like some other things but I never think about them. When I look for lists of kinks, the extreme ones always show up so prominently. And, sometimes, there are things people consider a kink that I didn't even realize was, and that I could totally do. (Like the possessive behavior above).

Well, if you like possessive behaviour maybe you could look into things like dubcon or things that are specifically labelled "light" or "mild" bdsm?

Alternatively, you could just look over a full list of kinks and try to figure out which one might be appealing to you?

Porn is hot when it's specific to the character. I want to hear the character's voices and have actions specific to them. I want the pairing to react to each other, and not just do what every other sex scene does. I don't like it when you could substitute any other two or more characters for the ones the story is about.

For long fics, I love "marriage of convenience that turns into love for both people but for some reason they can't admit this, so they're emotionally distant because they think their feelings are unrequited...but when they have sex, it's really passionate and intense...then they go back to being emotionally distant (repeat throughout the fic) ...UNTIL ONE DAY their mutual love is revealed, and they live happily ever after!"

Yeah.

For PWP, I'm a sucker for dubcon (especially blackmail) that's mutually pleasurable. My favorite kink is "A has to have sex with B (morally grey or black character) for some reason other than desire, and they don't want to enjoy themselves, which B knows, so B makes it really really good for A and A has the greatest orgasm of their life....to their shame."

I also love really good dirty talk that's not at all degrading, like saying sweet things in a dirty way, and dirty things in a sweet way. Bodyguard-crush dynamics (the "bottom" is physically more imposing than the "top" but would love to completely submit to the top). I love these dynamics in Gen fic, too -- the submission can be completely non-sexual and only in the privacy of the bottom's mind.

Bonus if all things above are in the same fic, and if it's really well-written and IC. ~*~Holy grail~*~ fic right there.

To answer your question about "why" -- I really like scenarios that look from the outside like it's two people having great sex, but inside the minds of the characters there are all kinds of complicated psychological and emotional things going on that are not entirely pleasant.

TMI: probably because I have always had uncomfortably mixed feelings surrounding sex.

I (straight woman) also love the idea of a big, powerful guy wanting a smaller, less physically powerful female character sexually, while having no intention whatsoever of hurting or degrading her. Instead, he takes pleasure in bringing her pleasure and being devoted to her. (Or in Gen fic, he takes pleasure in being her protector, but from a subordinate or equal position not a superior one.)

...oh my god. Do you have any recs for that marriage plot?

Rough sex, biting, marking, sex fluid licking/tasting, stuff with food as long as there is no food anywhere near someone's genitals, people laughing and having lot of fun pleasing each other outside of simply reaching a sexual release.

And above all else, feels, and characters baring their souls to each other through sex.

The number one thing that I want to see in smutty fic - above anything else - is extremely consensual, loving BDSM with lots of aftercare.

F/f dubcon, especially if it involves forced marriage to an alien queen.

I like to see "real" sex. The kind that doesn't always go according to plan due to awkwardness, or just plain silliness.

Genderbending/crossdressing. I like the whole challenging gender roles/expectations idea behind it.

Inexperienced/experienced partner, especially with gentle guidance/coaxing by the more experienced one.

I like pegging in het fic and praise kink is great in any capacity. This reminds me that I haven't read much fic lately in general.
