Kudos for trying to explain, though I don't think getting into representation for someone so young is terribly effective. I think simply saying that sometimes, kids like to read a story about someone who's like them because it's easy to imagine yourself in the adventure is good enough until they're older.

Ooh, that's good. I may use that if one of the kiddos I work with says something similar. The girl in question was in her mid twenties though, hence the representation talk.
