Re: whatcha reading?

Heh; I had read the book before the movie was even a thing and was FURIOUS about the movie adaptation because I was 15 and over-protective.

(In retrospect, HMC is not even in my top 5 favorite Diana Wynne Jones' books now. You should read more of her books if you end up liking it! The Chrestomanci books and Dalemark Quartet are still perennial re-reads for me)

This is part of a foray into DWJ for me! I have read all the Chrestomanci books as well as the standalones Hexwood and Deep Secret. So far Deep Secret is my favorite book of all of them. I've been on a real kick lately and shall continue to read more!

I have seen the movie once and though it was really fun, but I've forgotten many of the details. Apparently it's quite different from the book. My friend who recommended DWJ to me in the first place loves them both equally, which she says is unusual for her wrt movie adaptations (she usually prefers the book, I think).

Oh yay! There needs to be more DWJ love out there. If you loved Deep Secret, you need to read Merlin Conspiracy! It's sort of a sequel (Nick is the only character that carries over, along with the concept of Magids) and also involves a political conspiracy, but it's always been my favorite of the two (I really loved the new characters, especially Roddy who narrates half the book).

Yeah I'm definitely planning on reading that one!
