Lesbian Rey is propagated by misogynists who want to get her out of the way for their favorite slash pairing. Slash pairing that they ship over the canon romance between Finn and Rey because the idea of a white woman with a black man makes them uncomfortable.

Or maybe they genuinely ship Finn/Poe, or like the idea of a popular film franchise having a lesbian protagonist?

Not everything people do in fandom can be boiled down to racism and misogyny. Jeez.

I thought me and the other anon calling each other -ist piece of shit would give it away that I at least was sarcastic but I guess not.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
See, that's the problem with modern fandom right there. It's impossible to tell the difference between sarcasm and an actual insane SJW screed.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Modern fandom nothing-- the INTERNET makes determining sarcasm very very difficult.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
As the anon who followed up your "-ist piece of shit" comment with my own, I was also being sarcastic, haha

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Except that we don't know Rey's sexuality. Using her as an example of a lesbian protagonist is bullshit.

Pretty much every person I've ever seen who says she is a lesbian just wants her away from Finn for their Finn/Poe shipping.

Before I even saw the movie I would never have guessed that Rey and Finn ever met because nobody in fandom cares about their relationship. Once I saw the movie I thought it was leading up to Finn at least having a crush on her. Finn and Poe had like only two scenes together.

As someone who ships Finn/Rey, I think you're being a little harsh. I like the idea of them together bc I thought their interactions were cute, but I can understand why people would be all over Finn/Poe. The jacket scene was pretty freaking gay on Poe's part.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Is the jacket thing the only thing to go on for that ship?

Damn, did everyone miss that brief moment where Rey was wearing Poe/Finn's jacket when they were in the snow? I only saw the movie once but I could have sworn she was wearing it.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
She did wear the jacket in the snow. Also, plenty of people ship them in a threesome.

Found the delusional butthurt shipper. There's no canon romance in TFA.

This. There is no canon romance until it actually happens. They may go there. They may not. I hate this trend. It happens in other fandoms too. Ships that aren't canon yet are assumed to be canon and then people are judged for shipping something else.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's actually worse when it's assumed canon and isn't. Because there's like 200 different pairings for Anakin and he's canon married to Padme. But jesus christ you ship Kanan or Hera from Star Wars Rebels with anyone else and OMG THEY'RE SECRETLY MARRIED AND THE SHOW WILL REVEAL IT EVENTUALLY YOU CAN'T SHIP THEM WITH ANYONE ELSE THEY'RE MARRIED.

Right. But my point is that even if the show does get them together at some point, at this point they aren't canon. So you can't tell people that a couple that may or may not be canon in the future is canon or almost canon right now and use that to tell them they can't ship anything else or they can't think canon is going to go another way.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, I'm saying the fans get more rabid if a pairing is assumed canon but isn't.

If it is canon they've won, they have canon, they defend their pairing but they don't go on the offensive nearly as much. If all they have is might-be-endgame they get really aggro about telling people they can't ship anything else.

It's all bullshit, but just something I've noticed.
