Her leash is a couple feet, five, I think, should it be shorter?

Oh no, she isn't - according to her owners, she has a bathroom place out in the backyard, and she doesn't go potty when she's just on walks for fun (she has unlimited backyard access).

I had a baggy, just in case. :)

It should be about as short as the distance from your waist to comfortable walking height for the dog, held in both hands (the one nearest the dog holds just the leash for corrections, and the other holds whatever extra length you have). This image demonstrates a good training posture:
