If he paid for it, he was a client, regardless of if he was also her boyfriend.

Then should she get pissed at him because he went to a sex worker? I mean by your logic that's cheating, right? Except no because he was and always would have been her boyfriend before everything else he is.

In general, I do think it's cheating to be with sex workers when you're in a relationship. Is there a gray area when you're involved with that sex worker outside of the job? Sometimes. But that's not the issue OP raised.
