Yes, it stings not to get kudos/comments. I try to give kudos if I've enjoyed the fic at all, plus a comment if I have something to say other than "I liked this." (To me, a kudos means "I liked this.")

That said, you chose to put your work out there. Nobody is obliged to reward you for doing so. If your work does not move anyone to comment or kudos, write better.

No one on either side is obligated, but it's kinda like voting, seems to me. If you don't exercise your vote, you don't get to bitch about how crappy your government is. If you don't kudos/comment/whatever, you don't get to complain that no one writes the kind of fic you like.
