I was about to say just this.

The disgruntled backlash against the "heavier/average/whatever" female characters is always "WELL SHE'S ACTIVE SO OF COURSE SHE'D BE SKINNY". So, do you like your male characters to be 90 pounds as well? Probably not. Characters who go around fighting all day have muscle, and that includes the women. Maybe these female characters should look like Ronda Rousey, thicker and muscled, not so absurdly thin (because yes, Rikku and most of the other examples in the original post were not just thin, they were unrealistically thin).

I googled Ronda Rousey and holy hell she's hot. 100% agree on more characters like her.

I'll be sure to tell my friend that she's "unrealistically" thin, then. Last I checked, she was very much real.

Yeah, the only thing I find somewhat unrealistic about the character in OP's secret (the thin version) is that she doesn't have more muscle definition. I see women at the gym all the time who are very strong and in excellent shape, but who aren't big. That's very normal for most women - even women who lift. Generally though her musculature does look pretty soft for someone who is very physically active and uses their muscles a lot.

I'm the above anon who is 5'3" and 105 lbs and this I agree with. I can lift more than a lot of guys I know and think nothing of a 7-mile walk but I'm not bulky in the slightest. Most people are shocked when they see what I'm physically capable of because they think I look "tiny" and "delicate" (actual words people have used to describe me). I do have some definite muscle definition, though, just not bulk.

I remember when I started at a women's only gym in my teens, there was an instructor who advised me to get into circuit training and not just do cardio. She said a lot of women worry that if they lift weights they'll get bulky, but that it just doesn't happen. She basically said that if you see a bulky woman, she's using steroids. Period. Now I don't know whether that's always true, or whether the instructor was generalizing, but what she said certainly stuck with me and I've always thought it's something women ought to be taught about our bodies: we can be strong without looking like men.

No, I think she's right. I know lots of women who lift and work out on a regular basis and none of them are bulky. They've got defined musculature and aren't stick thin but you wouldn't necessarily be able to guess that most of them lift if you just looked at them. The only places I have any real visible muscle definition are my upper arms and my calves, and even so it's not immediately obvious unless you're looking for it because they're not disproportionate to the rest of my body.

Is your friend out fighting every single day?

This woman is a martial arts champion. She's got muscle but she looks pretty damn thin to me.

So is this one. Again, I'd call that about as skinny as the picture in the secret.

Neither of those pictures look REMOTELY like FFX's Rikku. Not even close. Riku's head is bigger than her waist.
