Re: What do you like about the USA?

Having lived in Europe, Asia, and America I can say this:

-The nature and space. The US is so huge and has so much virtually untouched landscape. It's a lot different even being in forests where people have lived for thousands of years. The US just feels so clean in that respect.

-And on that note, the clean air. No, probably doesn't apply to the big cities or whatever, but when I go back to my smalltown home, the air tastes SO DELICIOUS after being in London or Tokyo or wherever.

-How cheap everything is (well, besides college and healthcare, pfft). Food is cheap, including fresh fruits and vegetables. In my aforementioned small town area, housing is also ridiculously cheap.

-How friendly people are. Obviously a stereotype, but I think US culture encourages extroversion and friendliness in a way that not all countries do.

-No TV tax. lol

Where do you live that's cheap, if you don't mind me asking?

Midwest. :) Several hours drive away from any major city, though near enough to a "small" city.

NAYRT

Kansas, which has a pretty low cost of living -- I could legit buy a house for $60,000 or less -- and despite its reputation as a flyover state with no culture has a lot of theater action going on even in it's smaller 40K cities and it's big metro areas have tons of stuff.

We do have a batshit governor and legislature though.

All of these things are really more small town vs. huge metropolis... you can say the exact same things for small town Japan vs. the metropolitan areas (actually I'd wager the nature and air are cleaner, having been both places).

These are not unique to the USA whatsoever.

I hope you mean, the nature and air are cleaner in the US, not Japan. Because Japan is a tiny country and its pollution - not to mention the strain of people living there for thousands of years - has taken its toll. MAYBE if you're up in Hokkaido, away from Sapporo.

The question was, "what do you like about the USA", by the way, not necessarily what's unique. And if you want me to compare all the things I like about the US more than Japan (having lived there for four years) I could make a very, very long list. :D

I'd be interested in that list!

Re: What do you like about the USA?

Well number one would be, compared to Japan, the USA is actually less nationalistic and up its own ass, if you could believe it. I realize that's definitely saying something but it is 100% accurate.

I'm saying environmental pollution applies to the USA the same way it applies to Japan. Yes, there are areas in Japan that are completely fucked by nuclear dumping, but I'm sure the people of Flint aren't exactly thrilled about their situation either (just to be topical).

IMO (coming from Canada and having lived both places), Japan has cleaner air for the most part. The USA has way better water quality for the most part, though.

It's just an unfair comparison, is my point.

Hey, herpy? That's nice and all but this is for an anon who was feeling bad and wanted to hear positive things about the US.

Re: What do you like about the USA?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-02-06 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Because I'm American so I'm allowed.

Re: What do you like about the USA?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
that's totally besides the point, dude

when's the last time you've lived there though

Ehhhh a year ago? MA for a few months for work.

I don't really think that's hugely relevant, though.

Because he's an ass. Because cheering up the OP like they requested isn't as important to him as being pedantic, which he mistakes for being intelligent. Because this is how he goes through life, behaving jerkishly and then rationalizing away why people dislike him. It couldn't have anything to do with stuff he says/does, oh no...

Re: What do you like about the USA?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
OP wasn't asking for what's unique about the USA, they were asking people what they liked about it. Two different things.

There really is some beautiful scenery throughout the U.S., that's for sure :). I very much appreciate any efforts that people do make to try and keep those forests and other various nature-related sites clean and pretty.
