Re: Redpill me on being 'gender queer'/'non-gender binary'

I don't know, I don't get the point of it and as a lesbian, I find it annoying that this stuff has made it into mainstream LGBT politics.

I don't really care what people identify is, but I feel that "gender queer" or "agender" or whatever a) utilize sexist stereotypes of how men and women act, b) stress these gender differences when we should be trying to move away from treating gender as an important, dividing thing and c) are pretty useless, and these identities don't accomplish anything. Also I'm especially annoyed when they equate their experiences to those of actual gay or trans people. Again, people can do and identify however they want and I absolutely support anything that challenges the gender binary (in the sense of how genders ought to behave). I just don't see the point.

Bingo. You've coined everything that bothers me about the whole "genderqueer" thing.

Not to mention that it actively hurts real trans people, who already have enough trouble being taken seriously by society.

The people who coined those terms 20 years ago WERE gay and trans people.
