Well, nobody's stopping you from pronouncing them with the b, are they? And why just these two words? There are so, so many words with silent letters....

Well, you can pronounce the b if you want to. Nothing's stopping you!

You can't really hear the 'b' if you pronounce it unless you add an extra syllable.
