I think all you need to say is the "I was wondering if you could possibly recommend me a good -expert-" and possibly mention why you think they could recommend one, like "I remember that you mentioned working in -expert's area- and I was hoping you might know someone."

I've learned in work emails not to mention why you're asking. Not that it's unprofessional, but because it always comes off as tortured and run-on. And the other person assumes you're asking because you need it.
