I hate law professors for this specific reason. One professor, who is completely up his own ass, started grilling me for 10 minutes about a case, until I was completely turned around and humiliated. He acted very smug when I didn't get an answer, raising his eyebrows and looking around. People were actually asking me if I was okay - I was that shaken up. I had to run into a bathroom after class so I wouldn't start crying in front of them. Yes, I'm that weak, shh.

I only had one law professor who did this. Most of mine did either modified Socratic or assigned us days we'd be on call at the beginning of the quarter or semester.

That's not weak at all. Some people can't deal with that sort of thing. And given that not all lawyers plan on being a litigator, there is no reason to force every student to deal with the Socratic method. Especially when it doesn't even move. My law school got rid of it for the most part specifically because of studies showing that it wasn't actually useful for teaching students.
