Stories that would be better without the main character in them.

I bring forward: Orange is the New Black.

Didn't they kill the main character off and the series is continuing without her because no-one found her interesting?

Every sitcom in history that thought it had to be centered around some dark-haired mealy-mouthed little fuck who would endlessly whine about his lack of a romantic life while being absurdly self centered

Looking at you, Scrubs and HIMYM (also Ross from Friends even though he's not the singular main character)

Never watched Scrubs, but agree on HIMYM.

When it's done again and again this can definitely get tiresome, but personally I liked JD. At least for the first four seasons or so. I certainly can't imagine the show without him.

The Big Bang Theory.

Granted I've seen few episodes but eh.

The Lego Movie. I liked it for the most part, but Emmett began to wear on me about midway through his introduction and it only got worse from there. Just about any other character would've been a better lead.

The Sword of Truth books (any after the first really). I enjoyed the worldbuilding and I like the first four books. But Richard gets so obnoxious even before the author tract stuff gets intense. I really only like Richard in the first book. After that he can go.

I'd say Twilight, but that would involve writing an entirely new story. Well, the "main" story anyway. The backstory would likely stay in tact.

One Piece. I would've given it a chance if Luffy wasn't a gamma ray burst of pure, unadulterated annoyance.

I'm just going to say it... Harry Potter.

I somehow knew you were going to bring up OITNB when I read the title. I think Piper gets unfairly criticized, tbh. I actually find her flasback stuff kind of fun. And just because she's got a less chaotic life than the other characters doesn't make her a bad protagonist, imo. I agree she's not as interesting as the others but that's just because she's presented as the "normal" middle class privileged woman. It's through her lens that everyone else seems so much more exciting, imo.

I think she has her moments. I really liked when she worked hard to make that capsacin lotion for Red when Red was starving her out in the first season. It showed resilience and creativity. I think she tends to be overly criticized but I admit that I've found her kind of annoying in the third season.
