She still lobotomizes him, idk if that's losing her power? And the system of power that allowed the medical abuse of the mentally ill still exists. I just don't think its a fair comparison cause Shylock never had power and honestly never gains any.

Maybe Tamora from Titus Andronicus, or even Medea would be better literary comparisons.

It might be more clearer in the book, but after the attack the other patients are no longer afraid of her. She's fearful, has trouble speaking and has to write things on paper, and most of the patients either leave or transfer to another ward.

I haven't read the book since high school admittedly, but my point saying I don't think Shylock is a good comparison still stands. Shylock doesn't fall from power. He never has it. Even as a money lender, someone vital to the Venetian economy, he is not respected, he's spit upon, he's abused, lives in a ghetto: he's given a whole speech about it.

I'm not saying Ratched is not a character steeped in authorial sexism, I'm just saying Shylock is not the best comparison. The power structures are just too different.
