im not seeing the manipulative part of anthy at all, but maybe I need to see more...hm. I honestly cant think how she could even compare to akio at all. It just seems to me like shes stuck in her rose bride role, shes like a robot with no feelings untill she (hopefully, and prolly will) gains some. I just...I can't stand the thought of Utena having any feelings at all for that pretty-boy red-head, even if he does get better, it doesnt make up for the things he did. I pretty much hate everyone in that series except utena, anthy, miki, and wakaba...

Akio doesn't have power over Anthy. I can't spoil you more about them. Their relationship is pretty twisted from BOTH sides. Don't let Anthy's act fool you.

You might like movie!Touga better. Because he was never a douchebag there. I agree he's quite hideous in the tv series (which I like better *g*), he's more shoujo hero Manga wise. But yeah Anthy/Utena = OTP.

I love mostly everyone BECAUSE they are fucked up.

I guess I just feel for anthy because in the beginning, everyone is always blaming her for things and abusing her. That made me so angry and pretty much felt the need to protect her (even if I cant, I project that feeling in hoping utena will do the same). I think I had a feeling anthy's and akio's relationship was pretty messed up, so I guess they could both be to blame for it...but I don't really know the circumstances so I cant really judge.

No, she DOES feel. She is just in a "coffin" like young Utena was, willing, tucked there, not wanting to grow up just as much as Akio is. You'll have to see the ending. ;)

whatever it is she did, I really hope it's not that bad...or my mom might yell at me for finding my comp screen thrown out the window and the creators for this series all dead in my closet. >_>;; Guess I'll keep watching...I really honestly have never worried about the outcome of a series as much as this one.

You could spoil yourself if you want. XD There's summaries of the arcs everywhere. What she did, she had the BEST intentions to the one she loved but well. She Messed Up. Badly. He and she are paying the consequences of her actions (tv series wise. Movie and manga backstories are different).

Nope. Anthy is acting that way because she's kind of apathetic of everything, Utena reminds her of the one she used to love so much. Therefore, she shows her true emotion.

haha I guess I could..maybe. Did her wrong-doing have anything to do with good intentions for Utena/being with Utena? Because if they did then I'll forgive her entirely (and maybe even side with her), even if she did screw up badly. I really dont care if her actions intentionally hurt any of the characters aside from utena...because I honestly would want to hurt some of them myself D|; I'm just worried that she might have intentionally tried to hurt utena in some way...I couldnt handle that.

I'm also going to bitterly deny (even if I'm wrong) that utena's original prince had nothing to do with any of the male characters. they dont deserve to be her prince or even a representation of one. except maybe miki, but...yeah.

I mean in the past with Dios. Dios' kind of VERY alike Utena.

I said "Princes" ;) Movie!Touga, Ruka, Miki and Dios are the only male of the Utenaverse that aren't big douches (they aren't perfect... Okay, Dios kind of IS) but they aren't Satan either. Not that the female characters are much better (honestly, Juri, having RUKA, you fall for SHIORI ._.).

Yup. Even Utena gets flawed and not so perfect in the end, but that makes their strengths later on better, IMO. If they were 100% perfect it would be boring and how their appearances are deceiving. ;)

I won't spoil anything here either, but even near the beginning of the series I felt that Anthy was more than she seemed. Certain "random" events which led to Anthy's favor seemed a little too convenient, sometimes, for her not to have a role in it.

The switching bodies with Utena? Shouting "Go, Utena!" at the most crucial moment? I still thought Anthy was good, but I definitely sensed there was something manipulative behind that sweet act.

Yup. She's my favorite character, but totally not a saintly victim! XDD I'd dislike if she was.

I thought the go utena part was so sweet ;_; I was like "awwwww shes cheering for someone, actual emotion!"

I guess I'm the only one who views anthy as an unfeeling robot who can only really do what shes told. From what i've seen, I belive she sure as heck isnt a nromal human, like shes pretty much just programmed to do whatever the person who owns her says, no matter what. I guess I just see things in simple terms...I just sort of feel for her too much..

in fact, all this talk about anthy being possibly manipulative and bad...I think I'm just not gonna watch the series anymore because of THAT reason instead ;_; prolly neevr finish this series...its making me sad.

Ok, fine. Anthy is an unfeeling robot who shoots laser-beams from her bindi for truth and justice. She also makes an excellent slapping bag. Just paste a picture of your unattainable love / hot sibling / damself-of-choice and have at it. She only manipulates your taste-buds with her excellent curry and weirdass food, but it otherwise benign and selfless.

Ok, now that that's settled, just watch the series. It's awesome. For real, there is no Touga/Utena, Akio/Utena end game. It is one of the most inspiring series (IMO) out there. And while Anthy isn't who you might expect her to be in the beginning, she is one of the most powerful, complex, and interesting characters in anime. Now, godspeed, and go go go go! It's not going to watch itself!
