Everything: Getting a nine to 5 job until you retire, mortgages, this ritual we call marriage, the way we rear children in modern society...I think it's all insanity.

This...is a really good answer. I completely agree.

What about the way we rear children is insane to you? I think there's a lot that's objectively weird too.

Well, for one, that a lot of child-rearing is basically done by strangers. Which coincides with the 9 to 5 job thing. And this is not an argument for stay at home parents per se, it's just the whole environment. Parents spend more time on jobs than child-rearing, there's the whole nuclear family thing and people often live far from their own parents, so grandparents, uncles aunts are barely involved.

So what you have is kids out of touch with their own family, being raised by educators that you sort of have to hope are doing a good job.

Schools in themselves, as they are now, are pretty much bad for children.

I mean the idea of schooling for everyone is good, but the way it functions now is less good.

Young children, who should be moving, are forced to sit still for hours. Older children are saddled with stress because of arbitrary goals that don't really matter in the end.

While at the same time, kids are often NOT taught actual useful real life skills (i.e. you can do algebra but not do our taxes).

That's why I don't really regret my mediocre life - because I can see the bullshit of the "Life Plan".
