Yes. I don't see why it popping up in different societies makes it any less potentially mind-boggling. Circumcision was listed by someone, and that's been done in multiple cultures throughout history.

Human sacrifice has been practiced in different cultures and yeah I find it pretty mind boggling. Something can be prevalent and still shocking to you.
