Massage therapist tip?

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-02-06 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so, I decided I am going to get a massage after the bar. I'm not sure what the right tip amount to expect is, though. Normally when I get massages it is with a company (usually massage envy which charges $60 per hour), so I give 20% tip since the regular money is paid to the company, not the therapist.

But at this hotel, they have this in-room spa thing where it appears not to be a company or employed by the hotel, but individual massage therapists with their own prices. The hotel said to expect that it would cost $145 for an hour, which seems insane to me, but whatever. But since I'm paying the regular price to the therapist, I'm wondering if tipping less is the norm or okay, or if I should still tip 20%.

Oh jeez, this is a tough one. I want to say yes? But I don't know for sure.
