Re: Things you can't believe are considered "normal"

Parents kicking their kids out as soon as they hit some arbitrary age. I don't think it's THE WORST THING EVER, but I do think the big multi-generational family units that tons of cultures have makes a lot more sense, and it saddens me that that's starting to disappear in a lot of places to be replaced with the "GTFO Once You're 18" model.

Yeah I definitely think living with family should be something that's more supported because it creates such a financial burden on all parties involved and it puts young people into situations where they might have to trust complete strangers to have a place to live (and I know people who have gotten fucked over by room mates and it's a horrible situation to be in.)

Like if someone has a bad home life then I full support them leaving, but the judgement that comes with moving back in with your parents needs to stop.

Yeah, that is one I can go with, specifically because of my family dynamic.

When my brothers "moved out" in their late teens, it was to move from our hometown in northern NSW to Sydney, where they ended up sharing house with Dad. One brother is currently living with our paternal aunt, while the other, well he isn't living with family but he is working for extended family - he has a job in an industrial laundry run by our cousin.
Meanwhile, the one time in my own life I didn't live with Mum, I lived with Dad.

Basically my whole life, myself and my brothers have more or less had support from parents and aunts/uncles/cousins.
