If you're pro-choice...

(Anonymous) 2016-02-07 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
... Can you support gender based abortions? For example aborting a male fetus because of political fears?

Re: If you're pro-choice...

I literally don't care because abortion is a personal choice. Like personally I would abort just because I don't want a human living in me, so.

SA also I don't know what the fuck you mean by "political fears" but my above statement stands.

Re: If you're pro-choice...

For example: "I dont think I can raise a male child in this world and guarantee he wouldn't be a rapist"

well here's the thing

I think you're radfem anon and you're trying to stir up shit

but I also think abortion is a peronal choice and I would personally abort if I even got pregnant (which isn't likely to happen, in case that makes a difference), so I, personally, am in no place to judge other people's personal decisions

Like if I met you irl and you told me you were having an abortion for that reason, I probably would avoid you. Personally.

Hope that helps! :)

If you abort a male fetus because you're scared you can't prevent them from growing up a rapist, then I think you're too scared to be a parent at all. A good parent would damn-well try to raise their son to be a good person.

So would you say there is no bad reason to make that choice?

Re: If you're pro-choice...

(Anonymous) 2016-02-07 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I would say I don't care.

DA

My opinion is that people make decisions that I wouldn't make all the time. What is good to me may be bad to them, and vice versa.

I refuse to impose my own personal values and morality on anyone else but myself.

What another woman wants to do, the ball's in her court.

I wouldn't want someone to have the power to force me to have an abortion. Why should I support forcing others NOT to have one?

Besides, women have been having abortions since the beginning of time. Making it illegal in my country doesn't mean it will stop (prohibition, anyone?).

why does it matter if the reasoning is "bad" or "good?" there's nothing about being pro-choice that holds the choice has to be for a "good" reason.

I support every pregnant person's right to choose whether they want to abort, regardless of their reason.

If we want less gender-based abortions to happen, then we need to treat the causes, not the symptoms. For instance, with female fetuses being aborted in disproportionate numbers in some countries, the solution is to help change society to value females, not to ban gender-based abortion.

Re: If you're pro-choice...

I would argue that your example is equally as valid as choosing to abort a female because you value them less. If you're going to let people choose, with no holds barred, then you need to let people choose with no holds barred. Seems pretty damn simple to me.

Oh radfem anon...
But yeah. The thing about being pro choice is: I want the choice to be there, for everyone to consider and be able to make their own decision on. Not just people I agree with.

Be fair. It could be a pro-life troll pulling the world's stupidest slippery slope argument.

Yes. I don't put arbitrary restrictions on the right to choose.

I do think we need to dismantle the social structures that lead to one sex being valued more highly, which is what leads to sex-based abortions in the first place, but that's an entirely different issue.
