As posters have mentioned, it's had a resurgence pretty recently, within the past decade or so. It also doesn't seem that out there... there's a comic, Poison River (one of the volumes of the Love and Rockets series), where a character has a navel fetish. There's a page dedicated to its genesis in watching a bellydancer, and bellydancing (and navel) imagery recurs in that volume and later issues. Actually, at this point, I'm fairly certain most of the current main female cast has been shown bellydancing or outfitted for it by now. So. Pretty sure YANA.
