(Anonymous) 2016-02-07 07:00 am (UTC)(link)And two year old phones can absolutely stop running, heck even a one year or one day old phone can stop running, the difference is when it's under your contract you can still do things like call tech support and not be charged.
I use phones until they're pretty much dead but even I know that these companies make the phone cheaply on purpose to pressure people to buy new ones, it's not entirely the fault of the consumer. Even having a phone every 5 years is wasteful in comparison to landlines that could be in a person's house for decades.

I find keeping a landline reassuring anyway.
But the annoyance of changing equipment still bugs me because of my modem. I think I've had three in the last 5 years, and the second one is still workable and sitting in my draw. Some time I should visit a Telstra store and ask if it can be used on pre-paid.
