Have you tried the pub? Do americans just call them bars? Small towns usually have their own forms of entertainment. Trivia nights, pool comps, live music.
Hobby groups and volunteer organisations usually do stuff in person, too.

If your coworkers invite you to do group stuff, say yes anyway. There will probably be other single people there, and you can bond over that.
