I have yet to have to replace a phone because it has stopped working properly, but I don't have a smartphone, I just get the cheap phones that have the basic phone/phonebook/text/music player functions on them. The only reason I have had to replace phones is because I lost my phone a couple of times, much to my annoyance.

On the other hand, I have had batteries wear out in my wi-fi modems - the first time I replaced the whole modem, the second time I bought a new battery on Ebay, but not a huge time after ended up changing to broadband and got a new modem anyway.
