I have a trans headcanon, but I will never tell anyone.
I don't want to come off as one of those cis people who seem to do it for brownie points - or the ones that have a trans fetish.
Besides, it's a minor character and I'm not in that fandom anymore.

I just do what I want for the reasons I want, and fuck what people think about it or what they imagine my reasons to be. Granted, I also made a sock for such things.

Trans fetishes are perfectly okay if you don't go around chasing unwilling trans people for it.

Is this Chaka from One Piece?

Yes. Gotta say, I'm kind of impressed someone recognized him so fast.

OP plz tell me your trans headcanon! As a trans person I actually really enjoy them, and largely the only valid criticisms I see are things I don't see too many people doing.

Speaks for Oda and his distinct style bc I'm out of the fandom too and even remembered the name but then again Vivi and the Alabasta arc were my faves.

You know, it's nice too see side characters get love/thought so do your thing, OP. Though I understand why you dont want to throw yourself to the wolves. But even if you think you're the only one, SOMEONE out there might share your views.

I'm surprised your trans headcanon is about Chaka. What makes you think that?

If there's any trans character (that's not played as a joke) in One Piece my first guess would be Crocodile, given his reaction to Iva.

(And while we're talking about trans topics in OP can I just say that Sanji's timeskip story is so much bullshit? I was really hoping for some character growth here, but nope. Sanji's even worse than before and we got a lovely "real men don't wear dresses! Okama are gross but funny!" message too. :/ )

I'm not super heavy into One Piece, in fact I'll fully admit that most of my involvement happens to be through Doflamingo/Crocodile doujinshi (a doujinshi artist I buy from specifically because I love her art so fucking much happened to do a bunch of Doflamingo/Crocodile stuff, which got me interested enough to at least peripherally check it out, but One Piece is kind of intimidating as a canon to get into, it's just...HUGE), but I've heard this whole "crocodile=trans" thing before, what's that all about? Can someone explain to me? Are we saying Crocodile used to be a woman, and got changed into a man? Or that he longs to be a woman and is canonically male? Also, what was his reaction and why does it hint at that?

(Also, as a trans person, as much as I think it would be super cool to have a character as neat as Crocodile being trans, the OP canon isn't exactly kind to trans people from what I've seen. o.O)

Spoilers for One Piece

[personal profile] hwc 2016-02-10 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
This is spoiler-y for the Marineford saga.

During that arc Luffy meets a devil fruit user and okama who has hormone powers. One of the aspects of that power is that he can change the sex of a person. They run into Crocodile who offers them a sort of deal to help Luffy. Iva reassures Luffy that he can keep "Croco-boy" in check because he knows Crocodile's secret and/or weakness. From Crocodile's reaction upon seeing Iva that's definitely true. Given Iva's powers a sex-change seems possible.

That's how the Crocodile=trans theory gained traction. I think I remember that headcanon floating about before, but it's been so incredibly long that I'm not sure if I'm not confusing things.

Edit: Yeah, One Piece has never been the bastion of LGBT or even feminist representation. And that's fine, because I don't turn to animanga (especially shonen animanga) for representation, but One Piece had some great female characters who were even allowed to be badass on occasion, and it had at least one okama who was also badass and heroic. But since the timeskip it unfortunately all went downhill. :/

Oooh. Actually I can really see why that theory would gain traction. So basically it's that Crocodile is a trans guy who went to Iva to be turned into a genetic male? I do find it kind of strange that Iva would know his "secret" (whatever it is) given that Iva is kind of a one-note character and most of their stuff seems to do with sex change stuff.

I'm like pretty positive this is probably not what Oda intended, simply because I don't have faith in Oda imagining a trans guy as being a bad-ass grizzled character like Crocodile, he seems to be pretty fond of "men are men, women are women, and people who act outside of gendered norms are comic relief" ideals, but this would be a super cool plot twist.

Time skip? What did they skip to and why did it all go downhill? (See what I mean? Intense canon! When people mention "time skips" I just want to curl into a ball. I already get enough confusion in Mortal Kombat fandom with that shit. x___X)

As the last arc before the time skip concluded, the Strawhat crew was scattered around the world, each kind of feeling like they're not ready for the second half of the Grand Line. Luffy had, for the first time, failed in saving someone he'd set out to protect. He got the message out to his crew that they would meet up again after two years, and continue their journey. The timeskip skipped those two years, which each crew member spent honing their skills and becoming stronger.

As for how it's gone downhill, many of the Strawhats' personalities seem oversimplified since the timeskip. Sanji is practically a walking lech/no homo gag. Zoro barely ever laughs anymore. Robin doesn't really get to do anything interesting a lot of the time. In my opinion the plot has gotten a lot more boring, too.
New female characters who are central to an arc suffer from Nami face (look up Shirahoshi and Rebecca) and tend to end up needing to be saved. The amount of fanservice has increased, and some of it is really iffy: for instance, there was a bodyswap plot wherein Sanji ended up in Nami's body and promptly took advantage of the fact to fondle Nami's boobs. Smoker ended up in Tashigi's body and unbuttoned her shirt despite Tashigi's objections because he apparently can't not wear an open shirt.

individual headcanons are not political problems!

Something I'm getting a bit sick of is the lack of discernment that an individual person bending the material to a personal interpretation isn't biphobia, homophobia, transphobia, or erasure.
