So I have a question for crafty F!Sers and thought maybe others would like to talk about crafts!

repurposing a bath bomb

[personal profile] diet_poison 2016-02-09 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
So for Christmas, my boss gave my co-workers and I a peppermint bath bomb.

It was a sweet gift, but I literally never take baths (showers ftw) and it's been sitting on my bathroom counter, somewhat crumbled from the ride in my purse. Is there any way to repurpose this? It's homemade and not very strong I think - he made a bunch at once and had never done it before. I wonder if I could use it to make some kind of potpourri thing (been wanting one of those for a while) or soap or a candle or something. I don't really know how to make any of those things so not sure if any of it would be a good idea.

I know some people here are really crafty - maybe you could give me some tips?

I've used that sort of thing in the shower before. The scent can be nice. I have eucalyptus essential oil that I used in the shower all the time.

You could crumble it a bit more, put it in a bowl, and just keep it around for the smell. It is mostly baking soda and citric acid, so it can't really be repurposed as a candle or soap.

This is not crafty at all but I still highly recommend it if the bath bomb is strongly scented. I have a deep love of scented soaps and I have too many of them, so I keep two of them in my shirt drawers and now everything smells awesome.

I do the same. I don't like to wash with them, but I love damascena rose smelling panties.

I like to keep them with my shirts because then when I've just gotten dressed I have fresh, clean, fruity scents right where I can take a deep breath.

Make sure that the smell isn't too strong! Some people (like me) have severe allergies and strong scents on other people trigger migraines. It's not a big deal but something to keep in mind!

Completely understand, my best friend is prone to migraines. It's a very mild scent, that's why I keep it in my shirt drawer. I get a nice whiff when it's fresh out of the drawer but it fades pretty quickly. It's a lot weaker than the perfume I wear more often, and that has yet to trigger anyone. But I will absolutely be aware if other people seem uncomfortable!

Bits of it can be used for a very nice foot bath in any large bowl, after a day with long hours at work or too much walking. Try it?

I second the anon who said to put it in a basin and soak your feet. Or hands, and then push and trim your cuticles, lotion up, and maybe manicure. Great if you've got that wintery dry skin.

But you could also make a sachet out of it. One of my favorite indie soap companies recycles some of their soap shavings in sachets; they threw one in as a free gift with one of my purchases. Makes my underwear drawer smell nice.

I finally got the Lego pieces I ordered so I could finally complete my Silmarils.

Getting the paint off the hair for Lossanárë was easy as I'd bought a bottle of paint thinner for the enamel paint I'd bought, though I think it was too easy and might have been wearing away at the plastic as well. But I was able to mix up a matching tone to repaint her ears, and arranged parts around to a combo I like for now, and I still have spares if I feel like changing Losá and Eleni into trousers, or Elossi into a shorter skirt.

Maybe I'll dress them up later in the grey cloaks again, but for now this is good.

Those are cool! I didn't realize you could customize Legos so much!

Customising can be as simple as swapping around parts from a few different figures, which I have done in the past, but can get as complex as painting whole new decals on pieces.

For these my painting is relatively simple, with painting Elenlossë's hair white, and repainting Lossanárë's hair with lighter ears because Losá is white-skinned in my idea of her and the hair piece came from Azari, who is medium brown.

Maybe if I bought another few heads and a couple more hair pieces I could turn the surplus body parts I have into whole figures.
