AYRT - I mean, technically, but my desk where I have lunch is by the phone, and we don't really have a break room. It's an incredibly small office.

Would you get in trouble if you let it go to voicemail during lunch? Curious. I've never been a straight-up receptionist/secretary but I do fill a similar role on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If I eat in the office I'll answer the phone on break but take a little time after break to make up for it. However the phone only rings a handful of times a day on this office. And if I want to eat in the cafeteria I just leave and let it go to voice mail. Also I know (mostly from personal, including professional, experience) that a lot of places have lunch hours on their office voicemail and nobody is ever there during lunch.

Kinda sucks if they make you stay by the phone when you're off the clock. :(

AYRT - I mean, we do have a small room no one uses, and there's no reason I couldn't technically just go to one of the restaurants. So some of it is on me, and if the phone's ringing, and I'm right there, I really should answer it.

Everyone has the same exact issue, honestly - we either hide in the small room, leave for lunch, or just take calls during break.
