My friend is one of those people who gets very unrealistic ideas, partly because she has some learning difficulties. The problem is that also because she has some disabilities, people think the kind thing to do is humor her and encourage her to go along with said ideas. This has led her to make horrible decisions that, in one case, left her in debt. It's not pretty, but when her brother and mother and stepfather all pointed out that each of those ideas were terrible, she called me on the phone crying because "my family doesn't believe in me."

How awful. :( If I could, I'd give those other people an earful about being enablers.

ugh, how awkward for you and sad for her. it sucks to be caught in the middle like that.

Do you know who encouraged her, and is there a way to try to get them to stop doing that?
