Absolutely.

Perhaps ironically, while there were some things that I didn't know more about because I just didn't think to look into them, there were several things that I argued with my parents about politically at around 12 because I skew more liberal while they are more moderate conservatives (at the time; nowadays they'd be solidly moderate to slightly liberal). The cool thing is my parents didn't discount my opinions, but we had solid debate, and they made me work for defending my opinions. I won't say I knew everything, hardly, but I knew more on some issues than they did because I cared about them and they went with urban legends/myths.
