I once bought this book about essays on Buffy. Her essay was about how Buffy was best when she was weakest because otherwise she was emasculating to the men in her life. I've never been able to forgive her for that.

That was pretty much my reaction. She writes very stereotypical paranormal romance stuff with "alpha" males. Which is fine if that's your thing, but she talks in her essay as if all men should be like that and all women should be fine with sitting back and letting their man be the hero. And that so totally and completely misses the point of Buffy.

Worse than I could have imagined.

Oh. My. Fucking. God.

For some reason I initially felt disinclined to believe what you were saying about Sherrilyn Kenyon. I thought maybe you were just trying to derail the conversation about Claire's (much debated) plagiarism. So I dug up Kenyon's article. And I am just speechless. I...holy shit. I'm sorry I doubted you.

A few direct quotes for anyone interested in seeing the insanity for themselves:

"As Angel becomes more involved with Buffy, we see in him a dramatic change where he becomes weaker while she grows stronger. When he finally succumbs to her and they sleep together, I believe it isn’t so much his soul leaving him that turns him into Angelus as it is Angel seeing the writing on the wall and knowing that if something doesn’t change instantly, he will be as dead from her testosterone-drain-age as a vampire victim is from blood loss."

"Now that Spike no longer has balls, it begs the question: who will be next? I thought for a minute Willow might have them, but, as we saw, Buffy the Testosterone-Sucking Vampire, with the help of her emasculated Xander, defeated her."

"Even Riley Finn succumbed to her gonad-feeding frenzy."

And THE WHOLE ARTICLE is like this. I don't...I can't...wow.

Welp doesn't surprise me. If she's self absorbed and narcissistic enough to sue people over copying common tropes in the genre, she probably has stupid views on other things too.
