If it makes you feel better, Heiderich's unconditional acceptance of Noah - which, you might want to note, is NOT shared by Hughes and other Nazis - very much suggests that even if he sympathized with the Thule Society for political reasons (and nothing suggests that he did), it probably wasn't for the racist ideology.

And along with that, remember that the Hughes in Munich in essence was the same as the one in Amestris. Questionable political leanings does not a bad person make, and the history behind the rise of Nazism in post-WWI Germany is far, far more complex than "Germans were nationalists who hated Jews".

The other thing to note is that eugenics was not a horror invented and purported solely by Germans/Nazis/the Thule Society as a lot of people believe - it was sadly quite a widespread field of research. The movie was set in 1923...and just two years earlier, there was an international eugenics conference in New York, NY where certain speakers were advocating eliminating 'degenerates' from the gene pool. Scary, scary stuff.

Mmm, I believe that half of Europe had some sort of sterilization programs running at some point, and it's not like Europeans hadn't been persecuting Jews since before the battle of Hastings. Seriously, these were not Hitler's own ideas - if anything, his "solution" was what it took to prove them wrong :/

Randomly, ICON LOVE O.O I miss the old Pumpkins.

There are four bands in this world that I am enough of a silly fan of to buy their records without listening to them first. TSM is one of them, and another is on your icon *g*

<3 Yeah. The Pumpkins recently got back together, though I have mixed feelings about Zeitgeist :-/ For the most part I think Billy Corgan has turned into a whiny BNF, but at the same time I love "Stellar" and "That's the Way (My Love Is)" so much XD; For whatever reason it seems like most of the good 90's alternative turned into emo crap XD I miss the old Counting Crows/Third Eye Blind/Semisonic/Better Than Ezra too XD

I've had my doubts about Zeitgeist, mostly because I've had my doubts about Corgan's artistic output ever since I read a bitter blog post of his about why they disbanded (everything was Iha's fault, if I remember correctly) and his solo album got bad reviews everywhere. And I sort of doubt that he's gotten much better on that front yet, but maybe I'll give Zeitgeist the benefit of doubt - it could still be a good record even if he's still a jerk.

I'd suggest trying out a few of the songs on iTunes first to see if you like the new stuff...like I said, "Stellar" and "That's the Way" were excellent to me, not so much a lot of the others :-/
