Wasn't it just Ozamu Tezuka, though? Sure, he's considered the founder of modern manga, but all the other mangaka probably had other inspiration as well.

Also, wasn't it the eyes of Disney animals that inspired him? I don't recall hearing anything about skincolour.

That said, I also like several sorts of animation. I don't really think one should compare Disney with most anime, since they are so different, and tries to do different things. All versions have their good and bad points.

The way that I've heard it was that the inspiration was drawn from American cartoons such as Disney animals and Betty Boop (though I'm blanking on whether it was Betty Boop or it stuck in the Disney family with Snow White, I'm sorry it's been a while since I read this information). I know for sure that pale skin is definitely an aspect of it.

Oh I agree, I was just making a point XD

They held a manga/anime course at my university last year, but I didn't take it, and my knowledge is very... random, heh. I just picked up things here and there, so to speak. The pale skin just seemed strange, as it's been typical in Japanese art (and such; geisha have always painted their faces white) since hundreds of years back.

Also, it's not as if Japanese people can't be extremely pale! It's just a different nuance from North European paleness.

The Disney animals part was because I've a vague recollection of reading that it was Bambi that he liked. Not many humans in that one!

Since we both have really random knowledge about this, I think it's safe to say we both might be right and both might be wrong. XD
